Herrera it looks out of place
on 19-year-old models, but is it really appropriate for an older woman? This
season’s showing was more of the same. While the prints were new, and the
necklines varied, the collection was a mélange of the brand’s stapes with what
can only be described as kooky styling. There were definitely standout pieces,
including a few incredible full-length skirts, but the odd pairing of
separates, not to mention the look which had a black jacket completely covering
a dress, had me wanting more. The Carolina Herrera woman has always been a lady
who lunched, and this season definitely had something for her, but there was
something missing in the styling and running order that detracted from the show.
There were pieces that could
anchor a wonderful spring wardrobe, for the die-hard Carolina fans. There were
the signature wrapped tops and feminine dresses but also more interesting
elements such as cropped tops with full skirts, the excellent pairing of navy
and black, and a beautiful painterly print. Many will mark this collection as
another hands down success for the designer, but I think it’s time we saw
something a bit more modern from her.
